Australian Volleyball League

The Australian Volleyball League is the highest level of competition
that is on offer in Australia. Sydney University has entered man’s and
women’s teams into this competition for the last 6 years. In 2007
Sydney University Volleyball joined forces with UTS Volleyball to form
UTSSU for the newly created WAVL high performance competition. Following
this another combined team in the men’s competition was created
for representation in the National Volleyball Challenge. In 2008 this
partnership is expected to continue and will hopefully see more good
results for the team.

National title for Students

The decision by the women's volleyball clubs at the University of Technology, Sydney and the University of Sydney to enter a combined team in the National League paid dividends when they won the 2008 title on Sunday. UTS-SU were extended to five sets by University Blues from Victoria before winning the national title 3-2 at the Sydney University Sports and Aquatic Centre. Having finished the season with the minor premiership, it was sweet revenge for UTS-SU, who dipped out in the gold medal match against the Blues for the inaugural 2007 title. Volleyball Queensland took out the bronze medal, with Adelaide Centacare Lions finishing fourth and Western Australia finishing fifth.
